atlanta and some random knitting

Joe and I took a trip to Atlanta this weekend. Just a short little jaunt from one city to the next. We arrived kinda late on Friday, but we had just enough time to stop by a cute knitting store called Knitch. If you're in town I would highly recommend stopping by. They were super nice and even told me about a sale that was starting the next day. They offered to hold my items so I could come back and get them with the mark down. Now that is service! This big guy was hanging out to welcome you inside...

Saturday was spent doing well, not a whole lot. We got up late and headed over to the Georgia Aquarium around 1 or so only to see this.

Seriously, their were like 938,726 people there and those lines were not moving an inch. We hung out and stared in disbelief for a while then decided to call it a day. At least on the aquarium front. It was a good excuse to head back over to Knitch to pick up this.

Isn't it awesome? I couldn't resist it's fiery beauty. I see a very lacy shawl in my future.

So Sunday we actually got up in time for breakfast. We found this really great place within walking distance. The Flying Biscuit. If you have one near you, run, don't walk to this place. The food was great (yummy breakfast potatoes with thyme) and the service too. They even had free coffee outside while you waited for a seat.

This was the ceiling. It was totally worth a picture.

We did get to the Georgia Aquarium on Sunday. This time there only like 3 people in line. OK, maybe a few more than that, but it took me less than 10 minutes to get our tickets. Totally worth it. Look at this thing! It was really, really big. It's called a spider crab. I know it doesn't look that big, but since you have nothing to compare it to you will just have to trust me. Or read about them here. See... they do get really big!

This is a picture of the big giant tank. I'm sure it has some really cool name, but I just don't know what it is. This exhibit was really spectacular. Some really cool sharks, fish, and rays in there. Not sure who this kid is in the picture, but I thought it was a cute picture of him pointing at the giant shark.

On the knitting front, I finished up the smocked dishcloth on the ride to Atlanta. Really cute pattern, may have to knit another one.

I was also able to turn the heal on the sock I've been working on. Hopefully, I can get the leg done and get the second one cast on soon.

cute newish stuff

This is a bit overdue, but I like to give credit when I buy something really nice! I special ordered some really beautiful copper stitch markers from Spindle Cat Studio on Etsy. She responded quickly to my special request, which was for size 9 hand hammered copper markers that I wanted to use for the Clapotis I was making at the time. They came attached to a cute little card shown here.

They were hanging on the inside all on a cute handmade safety pin like holder. They are really beautiful and I have really enjoyed using them. If you order some I would recommend going up one size from the needles you are using to ensure a proper fit.

Another more recent purchase is this neat little project bag I picked up through Custom Threads at Etsy. This is the perfect size to throw a ball of sock yarn and your project in to carry around. The bag is really well made and has little yarn feeders, one on each side, that snap into the inside so the yarn doesn't pull out of the bag. Love it!

Speaking of socks... this is the project that I have been using as my on the go knitting. My first toe up socks and I switched from DPN's to two circs on Tuesday and I am loving it! Sometimes those DPN's can get a bit unwieldy and now I don't feel like I am going to stab myself or others with the five steel pointy sticks I was carrying around.

a little trip to europe

I am leaving for France (and some other random countries) on Thursday and I feel like I have mountains of things to get done. I was able to run a few errands today, but I know I am still behind on my to do list. On top of that my in-laws will be in town tomorrow evening and I am meeting some friends for dinner on Tuesday. That leaves Wednesday evening to make sure everything is in order before I leave. Oh, and I'm not complaining about getting to see family and friends the next two nights just illustrating my lack of time.

Anyway, Joe is already there. We are meeting in the middle of our trip. Long story... for another day. But we will be spending a few days in Paris together before he leaves and I hop in a car to roam the countryside with my family. Here is a picture of Joe living it up in first class on his way to England.

I may call later this week to see if getting an upgrade is even possible without costing me an arm and a leg. We'll see. OK, off to clean up cause the house looks a wreck and I have visitors tomorrow.

And just to show that I am still knitting. Here is a pic of my first toe up sock.

Isn't it just the cutest thing you have ever seen?
