much complaining ensues

It’s been a tough few weeks. Lots of sorting, cleaning, and much fussing at each other as Joe and I try to sort out our lives before he heads to SF to start his new job. I will be staying behind while the house is put on the market (anyone looking for a nice, barely used home in Charlotte?) and find out whether my employer is willing to let me work from the other side of the country.

It really isn’t so dire as it sounds. Things are coming together and we are feeling good about all the things we have accomplished so that this transition goes smoothly. It’s not so much the things that need to be done, but the emotional toll that a move like this creates. We are leaving family and good friends. Some are really supportive and some, well, some are not and that makes things tough. It’s hard when people you care about are so negative about something you are excited for and can’t seem to see that the negativity is practically a self fulfilling prophesy of sorts. Oh well… on to other sad news…

The bunnies.

Little Rosey

and Roscoe

I am trying to find a new home for my two wee ones. A good portion of the apartments we have looked at in SF do not allow pets. There’s a chance that it will be fine, but I don’t want to be down to the last week here and find out they can’t come along. So in the spirit of being pro-active I am looking for someone who would like to have to bundles of cute to add to their family. They need to stay together and at three pounds each they’re really like one still tiny pet.

Let me know if you or anyone you know is interested…

the crud

Ugh! The crud has been beating me up all weekend and then miraculously I wake up this fine Monday morning and feel OK. Typical. I mean, I’m not well, but better. Well enough to go to work after I spent practically the entire weekend in bed. Yeah.

So, on the drive into work I hear Meghan talking about this game on the iPhone called Words with Friends. What can I say, been playing it all day with friends and family. Love it! My new favorite thing!

Joe took me out to dinner tonight at Mama Ricotta’s since I missed all the fun parties this weekend. Super sweet! Then he helped me get the tree up. Yep, you heard that right. I just put my tree up this evening and by put it up I mean all I have done is get it out of the box and fluff all the branches. Lights and decorations will have to wait for tomorrow cause now the sick seems to be creeping back in and I am worn out just from that.

In other fun news there was a package from my Aunt & Uncle in the mail today. I had no idea what it could be and I would have never guessed! It is a super cute yoga top with a koi fish. Super cute! I will totally be wearing this to my next class.

In other random news, I upgraded the bunny condo this weekend (about the only productive thing that was done). I attempted to get some good shots of them this evening, but their was little to no cooperation on their part as you can see.

Oh, and I am still working on the baby blanket. I have finished the 70th repeat with only two left. Then… the border. Can’t wait to finish this sucker up so I can work on something new and maybe a bit smaller. This thing is getting pretty big to be lugging around with me.

a bit more rambling

Lots has been going on the past few days.

Monday I took a random picture of the fog while driving to work. It looked a lot foggier in real life. Funny how the camera picks things up differently than we do…

So Tuesday I took the day off from work. Our pergola guy (who by the way is awesome if you need someone to do some work) came over to get the darned thing stained and pretty. I noticed that before he painted he patched a few of the splits that were starting the wood. Nothing like someone fixing something without asking. Awesome! So hear is a pic from the inside of the plastic he had lining everything.

IMG_3729

Sorry, just thought it was funny looking…  And now for a work in progress pic.

Looking good! He finished up on Wednesday morning, but of course we got deluged with rain around six (yes, the stain held up just fine) and I haven’t been able to snap a completed photo yet. Anyway, we are just thrilled to finally have that all done and not have to worry about it for ten years or when we get tired of the color, whichever comes first!

The real reason I took the day off was because it was teeth pulling day for Rosey. The vet had determined a few weeks back that she needed 6 front teeth pulled. Ugh! I got a call that afternoon from the vet (Dr Powers up in Huntersville is great if anyone needs a good bunny vet) with the results and it was a mixed bag. The surgery went fine and she was recovering nicely, but two to her teeth decided to be completely contrary. Apparently she had some enamel loss and some of the teeth were really brittle. One had already been broken low and couldn’t be removed and the other one snapped below the gum line. *sigh* We will have to keep an eye on those to see if they just stop growing or become a problem later. For now she is on some pain meds and antibiotics for a few days to be sure she is feeling OK.

On a lighter note, I finally attended the Charlotte Knitting Guild meeting Tuesday night. I have been trying for three months to go and something always seems to come up that first Tuesday of the month. It was a lot of fun to meet new people and they had a guest host that spoke about color theory. Really interesting to be reminded of those things I had forgotten and to learn new as well. Good times!

On the actual knitting front I can definitely say that I have stalled out on my Secret Garden Shawl. totally. stalled. out. I think it’s the color change that I am having an issue with. I know if I just sit down and do it all will be well, but I am having a total mental block over it. hmph! Other than that I have been mindlessly knitting on a stash busting Noro Kureyon blanket. The ravelry link is here. Easy peasy!

you know it's all going a little to well...

I felt like I was getting pretty good at posting a little something on a semi-regular basis, I was creating some good habits (going to yoga, walking), and getting things done on my to do list like a good little girl. And then. It happens. I get deathly ill. Seriously. I don't get sick. Ever.

Thursday night was unbelievable. I won't go into the details, but I made fast friends with her porcelain holiness. It was really horrible and then I was so weak for the rest of the weekend and really didn't feel like my normal self until Wednesday. Just wrong.

So now, I have some catching up to do...

They are replacing a set of escalators in one of the buildings downtown. Have you ever seen the inner workings of one?

These are the old ones. Dirty.

I attempted to take some pictures of Cozy to post, but they didn't turn out all that great. At least it gives you an idea of how far along I am. Last night was the first night I had been able to work on it since early last week. I hope the lace blocks out a bit more so you can see the pattern better, but since it's cotton I'm not sure how that is going to work out.

Today I took Rosey & Roscoe to the vet for their annual looksie and to get their crazy long nails trimmed. Seriously, they were longer than mine and the buns are only like 3-4 pounds each. Here they are in bunny jail waiting to go in for the exam.

Rosey & Roscoe 7-9-09 (3)

Roscoe came out with a clean bill of health, but Rosey was another story. Turns out she has a bit of a yeast infection in both ears (treatable with some regular cleaning and ear drops) and some crazy messed up teeth. It's called malocclusion and it's not a good thing. Good thing I took her in for a check up when I did, it looks really bad. Tomorrow I have to call and make an appointment with a more experienced rabbit vet up north to have them looked at. The life of a bunny owner is full of surprises!

Rosey's teeth 7-9-09

This is what they should look like. Who knew that in less then a year rabbit teeth could go from completely normal to crazy. Poor Rosey!

I filmed the bunnies this evening and posted their antics on YouTube. Here they are for your viewing pleasure.

better than spiders...

I finally got around to washing and blocking the Clapotis yesterday. It actually took me a while to work the washing machine in individual cycles instead of just letting it run... I tend to be a bit mechanically challenged. Here it is soaking in the wash.

After I spun it dry I pinned the corners since they were curling like crazy. It's amazing how just doing that made them lay nice and straight.

IMG_2080

I wore it to work today and received several compliments. It's nice that people seemed to like it, whether they realized I knit it myself or not. Oh, this is not the outfit I wore to work, I try to be a bit more coordinated for that. I like the odd crookedy arm I have going on. It's harder than one would think to take pictures of yourself.

Last Saturday I returned my two foster bunnies to Animal Control. It was time, I needed my room back and they needed to be in homes where they could get more one on one attention. Here is the aftermath of empty cages. I started the cleaning up and dismantling yesterday.

IMG_2076

One corner down! We broke down that big black piece on top of the other enclosure as well and chucked in the trash. Gone! Now I need to go work on the other one and maybe get a desk in there. I will miss those girls, but it's nice to have my room back.
